About the Artist

Contemporary Impressionism
I’m Cindy Evitt, an acrylic artist based in Wilkinson, Indiana, and a mother of four. I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember. My love for painting was deeply influenced by my grandmother, a talented oil painter who lived next door when I was growing up. We spent time together nearly every day, sharing our passion for art. Her encouragement and creativity continue to inspire me. While I have some formal training, I’ve also studied through workshops with artists I admire. I like to think that I am always growing, always learning. My work often centers on florals and portraiture, though I follow inspiration wherever it leads.
Many of my floral paintings are drawn directly from the flowers in my own gardens, a reflection of my love for the outdoors. I’m also an avid bicyclist, and I find endless inspiration on my rides. Many of the colors and moments I later translate into paint. I gravitate toward an impressionistic style because it’s the healthiest outlet for my creativity. Impressionism gives me permission to let go of perfection and focus on capturing the essence of my subject rather than every exact detail. In life, I’m a perfectionist, but in art, I choose not to be. A painting should look like a painting, not a photograph. Light and shadow fascinate me in both art and everyday life. My family and I play a game called “Name That Color,” spotting and naming unexpected colors in the world around us. I often catch myself playing it in my head, even during conversations, mentally mixing the light, shadows, and undertones I see on people’s faces.
I choose subjects based on how they make me feel, and I like to feel good! My goal is to create work that lifts the spirit and brings comfort to the viewer. I want my paintings to radiate joy, love, hope, and a sense of calm. As someone who has experienced anxiety, creating art that feels light and uplifting is an intentional and healing part of my process. At the same time, I hope my work invites others to see color in new and surprising ways. To notice the beauty in the ordinary.
My faith also plays an important role in my work. I believe we can see the fingerprints of God everywhere, if we’re open to seeing them. Through painting, I hope to help others slow down and notice the beauty and divine presence woven into the everyday.
